Growing communities often advertised in neighboring states to attract new residents.  This El Paso Herald advertisement from 1922 boasted fertile agricultural land and the "Purest Water In America" for Deming, New Mexico.

_Railroad Development in Barelas
One hundred years ago, the Albuquerque Evening Herald carried a page three article about the Sante Fe Railway's demolition work in nearby Barelas:
The entire east side of Barelas is being wrecked to make way for the great improvements which are soon to be made by the Santa Fe Railway company. Dozens of adobe houses, for many years the homes of humble Barelas residents, are being torn down and the 'dobes carted away toward the Rio Grande. Grocery stores and butcher shops, saloons and society and dance halls have surrendered to the march of progress and the buildings which have been used for these purposes for decades, are being ruthlessly dismantled.
